Laser Skin Resurfacing
When people look at you, they take in the whole picture in one glance. They see your eyes, your face, your smile, and of course, your skin. While we may live in a world of airbrushing and photo retouching, having smooth and beautiful skin does not have to be something that is only reserved for either Hollywood or between the pages of a glossy magazine.
Smooth skin – free from fine lines, visible pores, discoloration, and acne scars – is not only possible, but is something that we here at Lake Norman Oral & Facial Surgery are happy to offer to our patients to help them restore their self-confidence and feel attractive and good in their skin once again.
What Do I Need to Know about Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation, also known as lasers, may seem like something out of a science fiction movie, but they are science fact and something we utilize here daily at our office. We use a specialized type of laser called a CO2 laser, which gives us ultimate control and precision when working on your skin. Our CO2 layer carefully removes layers of unwanted skin to help the healthier, younger, and firmer skin underneath it become revealed.
Getting CO2 laser in our office is extremely safe, but we do offer light sedation for patients who may be nervous about the procedure. The laser is highly controlled in our expert hands, taking away any risk of it. It can only go to a limited depth (just four or five cells deep, in fact!), preventing any damage or scarring to your skin. It does not break the skin’s surface, so you will not experience any blood during this procedure.
You can expect to experience a moderate amount of redness afterward, similar to sunburn in appearance. This redness will fade over the next few weeks to a light pink, which you can cover with cosmetics. For many of our patients, they will get satisfying results after just one treatment, and after the 3-month mark, any lingering discoloration should be completely faded.
How It Works
Before your procedure, we will thoroughly discuss all aspects of the treatment with you. Before we begin, we will make sure we are on the same page regarding your goals from this laser skin resurfacing procedure. We want to make sure you are fully informed of everything regarding this procedure, including any associated costs and confirming that you do have realistic expectations of your results.
Once we know you are ready to move forward, we will administer your sedation (normally we will use IV sedation, but general sedation is an option for some patients) then drape you. The entire procedure, from start to finish, may take anywhere between a half hour to two hours, depending on how many areas we are treating. Please make sure you follow all of our aftercare advice to help ensure your results are their absolute best.
