Oral Burn Lake Norman Oral & Facial Surgery NC 28078When you eat food that's too hot, you will need some information on the best ways of helping that oral burn to heal quickly. We are always happy to give you professional advice, but here are some general tips to deal with it immediately.

Drink Something Cold
The palate is covered by a very thin layer of skin, so there is a good chance that you may get blisters, like what happens with any other skin burn. The sooner you put something cold in your mouth, the better you will feel.

Milk has fat and is a good go-to item in helping an oral burn heal faster. You can swish it in your mouth for a few minutes.

You can also use cold water or ice but be careful with the sharp edges. The important thing is to cool that spot as quickly as possible.

Use Over-the-Counter Dedications

Over-the-counter medications which contain the numbing ingredient benzocaine, as they can help relieve pain and discomfort in the aftermath of a bad oral burn. You can also turn to anti-inflammatories, such as ibuprofen, to take the edge off.

Avoid Certain Foods

Spicy, salty, and hot foods will only aggravate the injury to and prevent a quick oral burn heal, so avoid them to allow your mouth to recover.

When to Give Us a Call

A mouth burn should heal relatively quickly, but if there is no improvement, the symptoms get worse, there are visible white sores in the palate, or your mouth is in pain, then you need to have it looked at as soon as possible.

If you are concerned don't hesitate to call us and we can set up an appointment to determine whether our oral surgeon may need to be consulted to help heal that oral burn.
