Best Soft Food Diet Items to Have on Hand Following Oral Surgery
Posted on 8/13/2018 by Doctor Haigney
If you are scheduled to have oral surgery soon, one of the things you should think about is what kind of food you will be able to eat in the following days. In general, we recommend a soft diet for a few days while your mouth heals after surgery.
Depending on your likes and dislikes you want to have an assortment of soft food diet items to have on hand following oral surgery. These can be store bought snacks or homemade meals.
Foods to Eat After Oral Surgery
When planning your post-operative diet, you want to choose items that will provide nutrition, as you will be limited in your choices for a few days. Initially, you will be able to eat only very light foods that don't require any chewing and those without any consistency that could get stuck in your teeth.
These are some of the best foods to stock up on following oral surgery:
Smoothies or milkshakes
Vegetable soups that are pureed in a blender
Soft or hardboiled eggs
As the days go by, you will be able to add more and more items to your diet, but it will take some time for you to chew without discomfort. It is very important to keep a healthy, balanced soft diet so your recovery goes by quickly and without incident. Other than taking care of the site by following the instructions you received from our office is the best thing you can do to go back to your normal activities.
You will probably feel hungry, so try to space your meals as soon as you feel like eating and especially when taking prescription or over-the-counter medications, as these can upset an empty stomach. If you have any questions about what soft food diet items you should eat following oral surgery, we will be happy to share our suggestions.
Treating patients the way we would expect to be treated.
