What Options We Provide That May Relieve Sleep Apnea
Posted on 3/20/2019 by Doctor Haigney
Sleep apnea is a common sleeping disorder. A person with it will not breathe properly while sleeping, often missing breaths. While there are over 12 million people in the United States with sleep apnea, it is estimated that just over 15 percent have received treatment for it. Sleep apnea affects both children and adults. Most of the time an ear, nose, and throat specialist will diagnosis sleep apnea. In many cases, the next step will be to contact us.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea
There are three main types of sleep apnea; obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, and mixed sleep apnea. We help patients with obstructive sleep apnea. We can also assist those with mixed sleep apnea, because it is a combination of the other two forms. Obstructive sleep apnea is caused by excessive tissue that blocks your airway.
Treatment The most common way that we can help you here if you suffer from sleep apnea is to fit you with an appliance. It will be similar to a mouthguard. The appliance will be designed to hold your mouth in the correct position so that you can sleep and not worry about an obstruction while breathing. You will be fitted with an appliance that will work for your particular problem. If the appliance does not help, a CPAP machine could be what you need.
If you feel tired all the time, even after you have had a full night's sleep, you might suffer from sleep apnea. Other signs include loud snoring, morning headaches, and a sore throat when you wake up. If you suspect that you have sleep apnea, the first thing that you need to do is to make an appointment with an ear, nose, and throat specialist. Do not be surprised if your doctor then works with us to help you with the sleep apnea.
Treating patients the way we would expect to be treated.
