BOTOX for Reduced Wrinkles

BOTOX Cosmetic is a new version of the FDA-approved protein that is used to help reduce skin wrinkling and muscle activity. These injections are primarily used to improve or even eliminate frown lines that develop between the eyebrows, neck bands, crow’s feet, and/or forehead creases.

While people are typically familiar with the cosmetic benefits of BOTOX, the application of BOTOX in dental procedures is less commonly known. Because dentists’ field of expertise is involved with the bone and muscle architecture of the face, dentists are uniquely qualified to achieve natural results that are extremely precise. For this reason, more and more dental offices are implementing the use of BOTOX in offered procedures, including correcting gummy smiles, puckered chins, or lip lines.

To properly administer BOTOX requires comprehensive knowledge of the product, muscle activity, and facial anatomy. At Lake Norman Oral & Facial Surgery, we offer a full range of oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures, specializing in facial reconstruction, facial surgery, corrective jaw surgery, obstructive sleep apnea, and wisdom tooth removal. If you would like to learn more about our services, or schedule an appointment for BOTOX, contact us today. New patients are welcome and a referral from another doctor is not required.

Contact Today

We encourage you to contact us with any questions or comments you may have. Please call our office or use the quick contact form.

The BOTOX Process

Prior to beginning your BOTOX treatment, you will need to schedule a consultation with one of our skilled professionals, during which we will discuss what issues you would like to address. Following this conversation, an evaluation will be performed to determine what options are available to you and which approach best aligns with your specific goals.

If it is determined that BOTOX is the best approach for you, the BOTOX Cosmetic will be administered through a tiny needle. This is typically a painless procedure, but we will provide an anesthetic cream that will minimize any discomfort associated with the injection. Following this injection, patients can typically expect the results to begin appearing within two weeks. During this time period, it is suggested that patients avoid strenuous activities for at least a few days following treatment. Patients will be able to return work and driving immediately following the procedure. Bruising does not commonly happen, but is possible.

The benefits of BOTOX Cosmetic treatment typically last for three to four months.

BOTOX Side Effects

Although side effects are very unlikely, there is a risk of significant side effects if BOTOX is improperly administered and allowed to spread throughout the body. If this occurs, a range of symptoms can develop, including difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, muscle weakness, and/or urinary incontinence.

Patients who undergo high doses of BOTOX over a long period of time may also develop a resistance to BOTOX. If this should occur, it may be necessary to use a different type of injectable to achieve similar results. For these reasons, it is critical that if you are interested in having BOTOX treatment, you have the treatment administered by skilled and trained professionals like our staff at Lake Norman Oral and Facial Surgery.

BOTOX for Teeth Grinding

In addition to the cosmetic benefits, BOTOX has also been shown to be effective in helping patients who suffer from teeth grinding and/or TMJ. These issues are typically the result of muscles that have become too tight. Botox helps stop your teeth grinding by relaxing the contributing muscles involved.  When these muscles relax, your symptoms also relax and dissipate.

By taking this step, you can prevent causing unnecessary damage to your teeth and potentially eliminate associated symptoms, such as headaches or jaw pain.

Candidates

In order to determine whether or not you are a viable candidate for BOTOX Cosmetic, it will be necessary to schedule a consultation. During this visit, we will discuss your desires and goals and review your medical history, as well as perform a careful examination of the regions of your face. Once this is complete, we will develop and explain your individualized treatment plan to you.

BOTOX Results

The benefits of BOTOX Cosmetic will be different for every patient, but on average, you can expect to enjoy the benefits for approximately three to four months. Patients who are having BOTOX treatment for the first time may not experience as long-lasting benefits as patients who have had repeated treatments. If you are satisfied with the results and would like to extend the results, talk to your oral surgeon about scheduling routine injections.

Other Injectables

Our practice offers a range of cosmetic injectables and dermal fillers in addition to BOTOX, including VOLUMA®, Radiesse®, Restylane®, JUVÉDERM®, and more. Talk to your oral surgeon about your specific goals and concerns and we will help you decide what injectable option is best fit to meet your unique needs.

Patient Testimonial

"Words cannot express enough, how wonderful, caring and professional Dr. Haigney and his staff are! After being rushed to the Huntersville hospital with an orbital fracture, broken nose and other facial damage, Dr. Haigney rushed me into surgery (on his day off I must add) and corrected all my problems. I only wish all doctors cared as much about their patients and their recovery as Dr. Haigney and his staff did. Thank you so much for everything! Your attention and compassion has helped me make my recovery as comfortable as possible. 5 star service!"

Cost of BOTOX

The cost of BOTOX averages $550, but the cost will ultimately be determined by a variety of factors, such as how many areas you are addressing, any unique oral or health issues you have that may complicate the procedure, and what type of insurance plan you have. Our office will file your claim, handle the paperwork, and ensure you maximize your insurance reimbursement. The remaining balance following your insurance coverage will be your responsibility.

Prior to performing the procedure, we will discuss the expected cost, as well as payment plan options that are available to you, such as Lending Club and Care Credit, which offer 6 and 12 month interest-free payment plans.

For your convenience, we accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express.
